This album is so good. The organic recording and dynamic songwriting is so perfect. This was a very close contender for AOTY last year.

top 10 at least. very pleasant surprise, since I hadn't checked out the band before and it was days before seeing them live.

Seven, have you had a chance to hear all of Salt yet? I see youre digging it at the moment

not yet, no. the dig is more a constant reminder not to forget about it when it does drop. I'd hit someone up about a promo but I haven't written many reviews lately.

1 year on and i still just cannot get into the production on this album, it's so flat

it is basic which fits these riffs imo. these guys play with that classic rock vibe so if it would be more "epic" or whatnot it would lose that edge. I think the production is very fitting. feels a bit like a jam which is great.

I enjoy the production as well. They didn't try to compress it too much. Angry Metal Review Guy Website says it's a DR 9, but I would've guessed it was a little higher. You do need to turn it up a bit to get to a normal listening volume but I think it sounds incredibly natural which I enjoy

yeah just not for me, just sounds lazy and lifeless to me. It's not even the lack of volume, there is no character or warmth to it. just a very dull sound

Mavradoxa's debut has a similar vibe. that's also something The Mantle has that I think Ashes lacks.
