Sowing should definitely check CTS first I reckon, even though that's not my personal favourite. I haven't actually heard this so maybe I'm wrong but isn't there SOME mild similarities between this & CTS? Leviathan is part of Mastodon's heavier side as well so stylistically it might be an odd transition.

CTS is one of those albums, along with Kid A and White Pony, that completely opened my eyes to the possibilities of music. It's a intrinsic part of my musical DNA and one of my all time favourites.

I think you'll enjoy it.

I want to fully digest and enjoy EoS first though, I've found that when I rush a discog I tend to enjoy everything moderately but not really remember any of it or develop a connection to a particular release. I'll probably check it in a month or so, or whenever this becomes not my go-to album of the moment.

Yeah I do that too, I say spend more time with this and then move onto their other stuff. A month is good, gives you time to digest this and who knows maybe you'll like CTS less than this which is totally cool, don't get bogged down in the objectivity behind an album.

I'm sure you already know all that but still, opinions and such

CTS has 7 songs total, 4/7 isn't bad especially if one of the 10+ minute ones are in the 4. I disagree but it's a weird criticism regardless.

There's a chance I'll like this more; I always tend to favor the first record I've heard by an artist. Something about the way it hits you that first time.

This has five standout tracks by my count (Precious Stones, Roots Remain, Word to the Wise, Andromeda, Jaguar God) but none of them have the emotional wallop of Ghost of Karelia or Crack the Skye, let alone the 10-minute anchors on that album.
