It's true very bloated and banal prog pop.

if you don’t like 4:27 and onwards in Darkness I actually don’t like you

and Darkness is not prog pop just because it’s long

every time I listen to it I have to rewind and listen another 2 or 3 times just to wrap my head around how good it is

"if you don’t like 4:27 and onwards in Darkness I actually don’t like you"
i can deal with that
darkness is prog pop because it goes into rambling multilayer bridge mode midway and this culminates in a noodle party. that is progressive. will meet you halfway and say that acting might have the better second half, but darkness' verses are the only parts of either that matter so this doesn't count

“darkness” is amazing. There is something about its structure: the choruses that repeat early on are SO appealing for me and then the “I’ll never fall in love again” part less so. But it gets there, and I feel like I “get it”. There are some other similar songs, would have to think in order to remember em tho

One of the best moments on this album was the pop ditty Pretending. The instrumentation is basic 60s revival anorak twee but the vocal hook is nice and memorable.

Pretending is great but it’s bottom 4 along with Sea, Sun and Air Supply
