This album had me feel like I was Abraham stumbling round in the dessert. Leaving Meaning had a bit more vibrancy, was very happy with the first spin!

The two singles were very underwhelming, so if they are of any indication of the album quality, then that's bad news.

It's a solid 4 I think, and I can't see it being anything beyond that (it's the weakest of the post-reunion records for me). The first half is extremely strong with some genuinely incredible tracks like Leaving Meaning, but the second half is pretty underwhelming and left me a bit bored.

I thought the second half was great haha The Nub was one of my fav tracks. The new joint isnt touching The Seer or To Be Kind but its a different approach and im hoping they'll expand the sound going forward.. With a Saxophone !!!

Those records set such a high bar, that I fear that the reception for this new record will be fairly lackluster by comparison. It's still a fantastic record, and it definitely stands up to their work as a whole. It just doesn't take any risks, and doesn't venture into territory that they haven't already explored. Much of the record could have easily been on The Glowing Man or My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope to the Sky, and something that hurts it as a record is that it lacks a distinctive sound or identity. I wouldn't mind them retaining this sound, but Swans has always been at their best when they have not played it safe and switched things up (Children of God, White Light, Soundtracks, and the Seer are all perfect examples of that).

The new album is the worst thing they released this decade. Two listens later and it's... not good.

new leprous and swans are the two most disappointing albums of the year for me

Why exactly did it disappoint you?

I can definitely see why fans of the last few albums wouldn't be as into it, but I feel like fans of the 90s period (especially White Light and Soundtracks) would love it.

It felt extremely monotonous. There wasn't enough variation, especially considering that it's one and half hours long.

Also, how can you even compare Soundtracks or White Light to that thing? They aren't even very similar in sound.
