id rather e comfortable with my 40+ 5s instead of having issues over what small handful of albums i should be calling classics as if it truly matters.

I get you clover. I mean none of my 5s are 5s because I consider them objectivity classics because I should, they're all personal ones. That's why I'm tentative about keeping this up there after a relatively short time with the record. That being said I've decided this is a 5 for sure

when i rate an album a 4.5, im usually calling it perfect, but it has some kind of disconnect on an emotional level that prevents me from calling it a "classic". like lets say, weezer's latest album. its full and through a perfect pop rock record but it doesnt really have anything i can emotionally connect to or attribute my own deeper, personal feelings and enthusiasm for embarking on broader interpretations over the material than a record I rated a 5 such as this one.
I really do consider each album I 5 to have a quality that makes me purely enthusiastic to want to talk about the record in full depth, to listen to over and over, and a lot more. I just dont understand making your '5s' some special reservation slot for only the smallest handful of albums. it doesnt make it feel like a genuine listening experience to me.

Totally agree. Listened to Maiden's Powerslave for the first time the other day. It's pretty much perfect 70s metal but it doesn't have anything to connect to personally imo so it's 4.5. I suppose I haven't come across enough records that really connected with me personally, hence I don't have many 5s, but I agree with your methodology for sure

"I really do consider each album I 5 to have a quality that makes me purely enthusiastic to want to talk about the record in full depth, to listen to over and over, and a lot more."
see, that's how I feel with all my 4.5s and my 5s somehow pull off the ludicrous task of mattering to me even more than those
everyone's got their system

I think I've got myself in a situation where I'm listening to so much new music so quickly to try expand my tastes that I don't often sit with an album long enough for it to develop the personal connection needed for a 5. That being said, churning through music has its own perks of discovering so much varied stuff

a lot of my latest 5s have been first listen events, and eventual 5s usually being 4.5s ive had to give more time to. its usually a gut feeling for me when i hear something i know is going to be special.

All of my 5s were once 4.5s that eventually grew into 5s. It never feels right to me to just 5 something right off the bat. A lot of it has to do with staying power. If something absolutely blows me away the first time, and manages to do the same thing in different ways after years of listening, then that's how I know it's a 5.

like i said, its a gut feeling that has been true for just about every album with exception to Greatest Generation and Queen of Denmark which i eventually dropped my ratings for.

Finally giving this a listen in a bit. :0
I'm very casual about what I rate things, but sometimes I get obsessive about keeping things up to date. Dropped a few 5s and 4.5s down which I don't think are up there anymore.
