all I know is your playlist included that version of Bloom where they didn't loop the sound of a drum kit falling down a flight of stairs and think it was a legit Flying Lotus-style polyrhythm

That TKOL listing looks much more appealing than the actual, maybe I'll give that a shot

ok so i re-examined my TKOL ultimate playlist and tbh i think i have something that works better and makes more sense when you take my conspiracy theory super seriously and over-think the fuck out of it like i have.

so what made me make the playlist to begin with is that there was all that shit going around during the release of TKOL where everyone thought there was going to be a second disc etc. they had random reserved domains that suggested so and the last lyrics on the album were "if you think this is over you are wrong" or whatever and so i was all like wow its called THE KING OF LIMBS and they released a one side single and 2 two side singles during those sessions so like WHAT IF instead of a second disc, the short TKOL that was released is just THE BODY of the album and these singles are THE LIMBS (one head, two arms, two legs). so i made that playlist and just kind of inserted the other 5 songs where i thought they would flow nicely. oh not to mention the live from the basement version of In Rainbows included solely songs from In Rainbows discs 1 and 2. and Live from the basement version of TKOL included some of these singles which points towards those also being intentionally linked to TKOL obvs

but coming back to it i realize i assumed obviously These Are My Twisted Words would be the head because it came first and it was the only solo single. so why wouldnt the other two double singles come chronologically and lumped together as well? arms first, legs second. so then that means since Supercollider/Butcher came first in April 2011 they would be the arms and Daily Mail/Staircase would be legs because they came later, December 2011. two arms two legs.

So the body of TKOL is an even 8 songs. so you put These Are My Twisted Words at the beginning as the head and then you evenly split the original 8 songs in half. the only two songs that you couldnt cut up anyway are Lotus Flower and Codex because they flow into each other. and obviously the legs come after Separator because the lyrics make that obvious as fuck. so that means you put Supercollider and then The Butcher after Feral, then the next 4 tracks, and then the album ends with The Daily Mail and then Staircase. I originally had Daily Mail last because its all mellow and sombre and emo and shit but it actually makes sense to have the wind down after separator and then actually finish with staircase especially since it kind of takes the vibe of the album back to the very beginning and that slow down wind out part at the end of the track is just such a Radioheady way to end an album.

there is only one thing that i think might not work.

im not sure if its my over-familiarity to These Are My Twisted Words prior to TKOL but to me that song has noticeably different sounding production to the body of TKOL while the other two singles sound right at home production-wise. Twisted Words came out quite a while earlier too. so I think you could argue Twisted Words doesnt have a place in this. But even so, since you are splitting the body work in half you still have a whole body. the first 4 songs are the head, then the two arms, then the torso, then the two legs. so yeah i guess take or leave Twisted Words thats the only one im unsure of.

feral into supercollider works so well. and if u keep the singles as they were released it makes more sense too cuz u can even hear in the background noise that supercollider flows into butcher for example

I like your concept a lot, I just wish the instrumentation of songs like The Daily Mail and Staircase and Twisted Words (not to mention the production) was less at odds with TKOL

i dont find daily mail and staircase at odds with it at all but yeah as i was saying i think twisted words maybe isnt a part of it. i think u can take that out and start at bloom and keep everything the same

Daily Mail sounds much more like an Amnesiac / HttT track to be honest. Staircase seems too layered to be a song from the second half of TKOL, and too warm and organic for the first half. Those simmering kit polyrhythms are super at odds with TKOL's programmed / compressed-to-fuck beats imo... its like warm soup versus shards of glass

disagreed the bass and percussion of staircase sounds exactly like the rest of tkol, particularily Morning Mr Magpie, which is why i think it wraps the album up nicely bringing it full circle. and the daily mail keys sound just like codex.
