Haha, I knew the average rating for this would eventually go down. If Portal of I is only JUST scraping a 4.1 avg. then there is no way this is a 4.4. Don't get me wrong, this album is really good, but not 4.4 from 200 reviews good. I prefer Portal of I, but POI has waaaay more focus on the instrumentalism over Citadel's general atmosphere and song structure.

what's nice though is the cleans aren't entirely cringeworthy. they're at least bearable

Unlike on Portal.

The cleans here simply range from mostly OK to great

Sometimes the guys vocals sound like a woman with a really deep voice. I like the vox anyway, gives me a Sins of thy Beloved vibe, with the violin and death metal approach.

Haven't listened to this band before but seems like I need to. How much do they lean towards the black metal side? From everything I gather not so much, more death metalish? Still I'll give it a shot.

Jesus fucking christ this is fantastic.

The prog elements and riffs are much more focused here.

Blast beats and a fair amount of tremolo picked make it kinda black metal i guess

I wish they had less metal in this tbh. Portal had a good balance of metal and prog/weird bits.

This has 3 interludes of non-metalness. I thought that was definitely sufficient

Zero Punctuation, nice.
I guess, idk I loved the Flamenco shit they had going on. This has that awesome opening track though.

This is pretty great, but wish they were more willing to go for a gritty sound at times.

Been meaning to check out Sweven, actually. Have it queued in my itunes. Portal still hasn't written their magnum opus imo.
