Idk the Hunter grew on me a lot, and I think I like it more than this.

I hate the Hunter more every time I hear it...

the only way I can accept it is that I respect the band as individuals and their right to self expression.

First half of the hunter has some great songs [2] but after the first half the whole thing goes to shit. And even the first half is mostly average by Mastodon standards, even though I'm against the popular opinion in that I love Curl of the Burl.

Black Tounge, Curl the Burl, Stargasm, Blasteroid, Spectrelight... I could go on, some damn fine 'don songs.

First four are great, but I have trouble stomaching the rest of them.

albums alright. but goddamn that part in Aunt Lisa where they're chanting "hey, ho let's fucking go" is so cringeworthy...holy shit

that part may pack more cheese than a fromagerie, but I still enjoy it

hunter > this

this is their worst. production and bland songwriting bring this down. some cool ideas in almost every song but most are ruined by a boring bridge or uninspired vocals in the choruses

as of now, after roughly 4-5 listens, I'm inclined to agree with that. we'll see if I change my mind about that after a few more listens.

Strange. I dig this way more than the Hunter. It's not even close for me.

wow Emyay DOESN'T like something new that Mastodon did, that's a good sign.

I wasn't blown away by anything on here, but I feel like every song is solid with the exception of Aunt Lisa.

I dig High Road. It's one of their better singles imo.

yeah i'm mad disappointed with this one. had super high hopes. the hunter was hit or miss for a lot

of people but at least they had the balls to take some risks. the only risk they take here is that

"hey ho" part which is fun for like 2 listens, but ultimately isn't even all that memorable or fun.

sup Dr. G? you are not alone my friend. this album tries so hard to be a bunch of different things

and ends up having no identity or balls or anything of note besides a few catchy choruses / riffs

sprinkled throughout. also, the production/mixing is not suited well for the music. The Motherload,

for example - while having a huuuuge chorus - never reaches its full potential with that muddy ass

mix.

Yeah the mix is one of my biggest gripes, album sounds pretty shitty.
