"Maybe it's time I try an album besides White Bat..."
If you're looking for something more similar to White Bat the other albums all sound more like it than this one.

i still havent tried an album that isnt this lol im sure theyre good in their own ways but im kinda offput by the idea that his singing voice sounds fucked up from here on out and that they drop the screaming, as those are my two favorite aspects of this lol. i will give them a try one day tho and give em the benefit of the doubt because this demolishes

Yeah they really don't sound like the same band, but there's a lot of charm in their southern groove metal sound if you're into that sort of thing. I'd recommend not really approaching them as the same band, if that's possible.

imo the dude's singing is way better now than it is on this. it's definitely fucked up on the album after this but age has given his voice a nice smooth honey-glazed finish

Onion, you've gotta at least give It Hates You a try.

It Hates You has some stunning individual tracks even if the album is wildly inconsistent
but like if you like IAH at all you should at least hear Stranger Danger and Don't Touch That Dial

When he focuses on his cleans after Suck Out the Poison, his singing voice improved a lot

I don't think he sounds bad on this, but his singing is kinda plain, I guess. His voice gets a lot more character thru their discog post Poison
I don't think he sounds fucked up, necessarily, on Poison. The way he sings and screams on it fits the tone of the album quite well. Lot a grit and harshness for a dirrty album

Kinda reminds me of Maylene and the Sons of Disaster
"It Hates You has some stunning individual tracks even if the album is wildly inconsistent."
Really? I find it to be a very consistent album all the way through. Only song I find myself ever skipping is Primarily Blues, and that's just cause the chorus is a little weak.

This didn't make much of an impression on me when it first came out because the guy sounded like a pretty generic post hardcore vocalist to me at the time. I think he's aged pretty well though, all things considered.

" the guy sounded like a pretty generic post hardcore vocalist to me at the time."
I'd say he was a competent singer but fantastic screamer, and he has grown into a very good singer. But yeah it's not as vocal-centric as other post-hardcore bands at the time
|

This is definitely leaning way more post-hardcore than I expected. Still digging it though. White Bat is more where I'm at now but part of that could just be production. This thing is pretty fuzzy.

he didn't have an amazing or particularly distinctive sounding voice, but the way he used it helped him stand out. now he's a monster.
