k-pop is musically more like western pop and mostly groups with a huge focus on dancing
they are performance artists more so than musicians although some of the girls can sing very well

j-pop is more diverse, mostly because there is simply more (japan has the second largest music market world wide or something like that)
a lot of the more well-known stuff is extremely gimmicky though
