How about we move on from this and talk about the album?
There are certain users you just have to accept that they're trying to make you feel bad for no reason
at all. =P You just have to ignore it and move on. =)
So, any way, I listened to White Light and Cop and I'm enjoying them more than this. Think I still
feel it's an amazing album and I like my 4.5 but man, I love Cop and White Light too.

On topic: alach have you heard this? If so, how does it compare to their past work in your
opinion?
ive only heard a few songs from this album but its very different from their early to mid 80s stuff
which was weird plodding industrial punk and this seems more like neofolk or something. this album
makes me think of bands like death in june or rome

I understand alachlahol's argument, but it's still just taking one statement and blowing it way out of proportion. I made what I felt was a reasonable assumption based on my previous experience (even if it doesn't go back before 1997) and gira's statements about what went into the album to conclude that this would be a good summation of their entire career and thus be something that would appeal to longtime fans.
I don't think my statement requires extensive listening as long as I researched things a bit, which I did. Anyhow, it doesn't matter what I say because to most of the people active in this thread, I am for some reason a fraud.

This album is kinda a 3.8 for me. Sure, it has some gorgeous and titanic individual parts, but the album as a whole is horrendous and mostly pointless. If this had been done as two separate LPs with the title track heavily altered so that there isn't that stretch between the 12 minute mark and where the harmonica comes in-you know that ten some odd minute middle part where nothing genuinely interesting is happening-and with one LP being the darker side and the second being the lighter side (so that "Song for a Warrior" doesn't feel so woefully out of place) it would be worth revisiting. As it stands, though, I will probably never listen to this again except for "93 Ave B Blues" and "The Daughter Brings the Water". The rest of the album is to monotonous and unedited to be enjoyable during another playthrough.

You like Devin Townsend though, probably wasn't enough fart jokes in The Seer for you.

Hahaha! =P
My only grip is literally the length. I mean, it does lots of things with that length to keep it an interesting album but 2 hours? Like, I literally don't have that much time, you know?

That was my only real problem with the album too. It's still undisputed AOTY, but it could have done with some of the fat trimming. They could have trimmed a few minutes off of the longer tracks and the album would have been even better.

I seem to be among the rare few who don't mind the droning after the climax in The Seer. It makes the final mumbling funky part all the more effective as well, imo.

I think the length is great as is. I know it can get repetitive but I say it gives the record a better overall atmosphere

I know it's for the better, you're totally right Sowing but I just can't sit down for 2 hours every time I want to listen to it. =P

I like the droning part, but it does drag just a bit.

I wish I had that much time. =/

lol after a certain number of pages all sputnik threads go to shit. alach's argument has merit, but he really doesn't have to post comments like: "you do when youre alluding to their previous work you fuckin retard"
CALM DOWN BRO

Yeah, that sort of language isn't necessary at all, is it?

I listen to droning shit like Steve Roach's Mystic Chords and Sacred Spaces (5 hour album) and all that other related stuff on a very occasional basis so I guess I have a different approach to listening to Swans' droning. It's very digestable.
