It works perfectly within the context though, as does everything on six degrees. The Test That Stumped Them All is certainly amusing lyrically, but I don't think it would work any other way.
"Why don't we try SHOCK treatmeant?"

I think Portnoy's vocals are great, like in Octavarium, albeit not in tracks in A Nightmare To Remember.
That is just awful stuff

A Nightmare To Remember destroys Octavarium (song and album).

Can't find anything cheesy in Nightmare, the harmonies are just beautiful imo.

Really? What about LaBrie's singing during the verses and Portnoy's "singing" toward the end? And the really overdramatic synth parts

Portnoy's vocals toward the end are a bit awkward indeed, but I really like LaBrie's singing.
HOPELESSLY DRIFTING, BATHING IN BEAUTIFUL AAAAGONYYYY

That part's actually the highlight of the whole album for me, I just meant his overaggressive vocals at the beginning

He overdoes it in the beginning, never bothered me too much though.

@Davil667 To me, Nightmare dragged on a bit long. After the admittedly beautiful quiet part, literally everything after that seems completely unnecessary from the solo that is too long, to Portnoy to the last refrain. It's all too "really? WHY?", whereas I love how Octavarium builds to that epic solo on Razor's Edge and each segment feel necessary and flow pretty damn well too
