i know very few people who listen to good metal and even fewer who're up to date on new shit.

I have a few really good sites that keep me updated on even the most obscure stuff but they're all dutch :/

I could see the logic in people calling Opeth overrated if they didn't objectively kick ass and write original, uncanny music.

It's a really good album, though tracks 5, 6 and 7 do kind of grind the album to a halt at times.

5 (Nepenthe) is one of the best songs on the album IMO.

Gotta give Akerfeldt props for respecting his music and his fans enough to give us a hint that Opeth is almost over, rather than dragging it out over the next decade until he's old and gray.

"I honestly hate the metal scene in Calgary. Most of the shows round here bring out some of the biggest doochebags ever. The Mastodon, Dethklok, Converge and High on Fire show was the worst crowd I've ever experienced other than Cancer Bats, Johnny Truant and Black Lungs. There are the hidden beauts tho. The crowd for Genghis Tron and Baroness was so sick, and the one for Kylesa and Intronaut was dope too. Mastodon fucked that up though. But I find the crowds round here I like the best are for some of the more low key indie shows and such. Like the Braids show, Phantogram show and above all others the Five Alarm Funk show."

I can relate. The metal scene in central Florida is fucking awful.

Famine starts off good but has some of the most annoying riffs.
