Open Quotes as well...the end of Gun in the First Act rocks my socks. Wait till the end of Stay True too. I feel the heavier, high energy moments are easier to appreciate because of their sparse appearances. And when they do show up, they're all the more brutal. Ace album

Best song
I think
this album is extremely consistent so I can't really tell. There aren't really any songs that stand out amongst the rest and blow my mind like most albums I rate this highly, but it's too solid for me not to give it anything below a 4

whole album rules. and yeah, the the album seems really mellow with all the synths and the distant vocals and such, but once you kinda break the ice with it, you'll find the album has pleeeenty of energy. it just takes time to reveal itself.

Weird I don't get a "mellow" vibe at all from this album. I mean there's definitely a similar vibe to it, but I wouldn't call it "mellow", more...I don't know...ethereal? I mean none of the songs on this album are something I'd turn on at a beach party to relax or anything, not that kind of "mellow". I actually think it's really intense, but the energy is more focused and I guess subtle? I don't know, I'm rambling, but that's the best way I can explain how this album comes off to me.
Utterly awesome though. I'm so freaking happy that Thursday are relevant again, their last two albums were decent but I think everyone kind of just assumed they were just going to continue to release decent to mediocre albums and then split up and call it a day. So glad we were all wrong about that.

I'm close to making this a 5. It just clicks with me more than any album of the last few years. I saw Thursday right after they released Common Existence, but damn I wish I could see these songs live!

How does Thursday's earlier stuff compare to this, musically speaking?

^ I personally kind of liked Waiting and Full Collapse, but didn't bother to listen to the rest of their album before Common Existence.
They weren't bad as a post-hardcore band, in fact they were good for what they were doing, but the records weren't as original and mature as the last two.
I highly recommend you to listen to Common Existence. It's similar to No Devolucion, because it was Thursday's first record in new style. The music is harder then on No Devolucion, but the style is nearly the same.
If you want to see how much Thursday has improved since their debut, go listen to Full Colapse.
It's an okay album, especially if you like post-hardcore.
Hope that I helped at least a little bit.

Listened to this for the 1st time in a few months yesterday. Soooo good. If this makes sense: It doesn't demand me listening to it, but when I do, I can't turn it off.

Disgraceful that it's rated the same as Full Collapse atm
