i would also say that stylistically, voivod's 90s stuff is not really samey
negatron is kinda groovy and industrialy, and then phobos takes that sound some weird places but doesnt fully commit to the experimentation

My friend gave me a tape in 86. Side 1was War And Pain, and side 2 was the brand new RRRÖÖÖAAARRR. WAPain was great, but their second album was not so great ( some good songs, but sound sucked and it was a step backward). When Killing Technology came out, I was NOT interested, but thankfully my friend was persistent, and when I heard the album, I was impressed. First two songs were great, but “Tornado” is the one that hooked me.
Thank you, Rip, for forcing Voivod on me. If you didn’t, they’d probably not be one of my favorite bands.

I had a similar experience, I went through their first three albums and didn't dig it at all until Tornado clicked and the rest was history. I'm still not crazy about RRROOOAAARRR tho, that one never sounded good to me
