On first spin, I'm not nearly as stunned by this as I was by Recon Site, but it's definitely great and feels like more of a grower. The songwriting is very different, almost doesn't seem like the same band.

Album is one of the growiest growers of them all

Started around a solid 4 for me... now it's my favorite album of all time :D

Yeah I think I’m just going to have to adjust my expectations a bit on later spins. I was expecting something as punchy as Recon but this is a lot more drawn out (I mean the average song length is still only like 4.3 minutes but that’s the length of the longest on Recon a lot more than the sub 3 min average on it).

I think my relationship was the reverse - I heard this first, and I guess when I got to RS I was a bit caught off-guard that the songs were so much shorter. At the time I felt RS wasn't as fully fleshed-out as this album - though I eventually realized I was mistaken.

Yeah that makes sense. What I loved so immediately about Recon is that there's absolutely no fat, every moment there is optimized for maximum impact. Not to say that isn't the case here but it's definitely more slow-burning for the most part.

This doesn't come close to RS. Aside is a wonderful song however.

Recon was my first and so was always my favourite - but there was a brief period where this reallyyyy clicked with me around 2014 and I put this ahead of recon on my top 100 (which I recently found out was deleted???).

This hasn't reached the same height of love as it used to for me, whereas recon constanstly grew.

I said it elsewhere but my only issue with this is that the second half is more 4/5 territory whereas the first is 5/5

Already fucking with this more on second listen - in a way this is more my kind of thing than Recon. "Pamphleteer" already bringing those heavy feels.

the "Everything Must Go!" through "Left and Leaving" run is lyrically impeccable

@Dylan hard [2] to that. This record is one of the most emotionally potent things ever. I can only listen to it on a rare occasion.
