On my first listen, i thought the album was very strange, and the vocals seemed annoying. After 3 listens, its AWESOME.

And one day we will die
And our ashes will fly from the aeroplane over the sea
But for now we are young
Let us lay in the sun
And count every beautiful thing we can see
These lines are one of the most beautiful I've heard/read. Just reminds me how lucky we actually are to have seen this world and that we have to enjoy life before we.. die. I have to admit that death is clearly my biggest fear but this song has helped me to see it differently and appreciate all those beautiful things we that experience all the time, such as music. This Message Edited On 10.17.08

*we're lucky if luck even exists.
Anyway after about 10 listens of the album, I now see why this album is so highly rated, especially in the 90s standard. I might call it a 'classic' one day but not just yet.

This album has too many 2-3 'meh songs' to be called as a classic imo. It comes close though.

every song is meh initially but amazing eventually.

Yeah probably I won't...
I've listened to this from the beginning to the end 10 times, but to the title track itself about 30 times. That song just stands out above all the others (atm)

The only thing that keeps it back from a solid 5 in my book is "The King of Carrot Flowers Pt 2."

Last sputnik user to get into Neutral Milk Hotel reporting in. Sat on the fence about it for a while until I found myself enjoying it more and more. I think it was his voice that put me off at first.

Holland, 1945 was the song that intially had me reeling for NMH, but then I listened to the rest of the album and I was like 'oh, word.'

Yeah I don't like those first lines of King of Carrot Flowers Pt, 2,3 very much either. But besides that this album has so many beautiful lyrics. This Message Edited On 10.31.08
