Transgression is terrible, even the band issued an apology

Did they really? I liked it. The cover songs are terrible, but the original songs are mostly pretty good.

I'll see if I can find some links but basically it amounted to they made a mistake by working with a producer who wasn't familiar with their particular "sound" (cold and mechanical etc), and they admitted it was heavily rushed (hence the covers). Christian prattled on about how terrible his playing sounded as well

It was the pressure of the record company which lead to the release of the material as two separate parts when it came down to Archetype and Transgression. All the material for Transgression was already there when Archetype was released, and could of been put on the same album.
I'm guessing that Roadrunner thought that the whole Digimortal and Concrete idea was a mistake, so the next two albums should be stretched out with the typical b-sides strewn inbetween.
I've think I lost count of how many bands that have had disputes and left Roadrunner due to them forcing bands to do it their way.

Roadrunner is a terrible record company when it comes to that kind of shit. Like releasing an album and then release a 'special' version with like two extra songs six months later. I guess you do what you can to make up for lost money, but the people not stealing music are the ones that end up paying.
I remember reading about them not liking the producer for Transgression, and it would have sounded better with Rhys Fulber producing. On the other hand, the songs themselves are pretty good. It's almost a different direction for the band and it was somehow catchy and heavy at the same time without recycling the FF blueprint. The cover songs suck, though.

I personally think the next album is going to be better than this. All they need to do is bring the dynamic attitude they had earlier in their career and combine it with this sound.
Even though this album rules, it is easily their least dynamic and it shows when listening to it in full.
The re-recording of Martyr highlights the sound that they should aim for.
