Listening to this again and it’s clearer than ever:



Fear Factory minus ‘Terminator synths n’ bleeps’ plus Masks Gimmick plus Maggot Branding = Slipknot



Slipknot were/are total hacks.



Opening two tracks here are one of the best opening 1-2 piledrivers of 90s metal



They never bettered those though the 1-2 of Hi-Tech Hate and Freedom or Fire comes close on the next album.

Now it is harder to tell because there are whole copycat genres.



But the guitar tone, the clean 'metal choirboy' vocals, the very 'non traditional for metal' pulse-like drumming



Take away the 'rave' elements of New Breed and it's 100% Slipknot.



'New Breed' is also better than any Slipknot song which doesn't help. Slipknot would just throw another drummer over the top - job done.
