I have to say though, I really didn't understand your chiding tone from beginning to end. It's like you have some personal investment against the band.
I have a personal investment against any band that receives undeserved praise.
I get the feeling you aren't at the right stage in your musical tastes/development/whatever to appreciate what the band is offering.

Yes they are.
Every member has extreme chops (which you'd have seen first hand if you'd gone to their show...:-P) and the songwriting is blatantly leveraging that fact to their advantage.
I wasn't denying that they did, and it's not a good thing that their song-writing is based around this element.

The vocals are dynamic, the range is impressive, and I think the tone of his voice is great, especially with the notes he's hitting routinely
He sounds like a yelping cat.
