This album is pretty awesome, in fact, its probably my favorite opeth album. Its probably because I like 70's progressive and death metal equally, which makes this album really enjoyable for me.

Sure, the lyrics are a disgrace to Opeth's standards and Axenrot's drum piece at about 2:13 is pointless.
Lyrics are up to Opeth standards and the drum fills used at that part of the song are brilliant. God, I can tell no one drums around here hahaha.

The drum fill in Porcelain Heart is completely out of place and just dilutes the flow of the song. Sure, Opeth have a knack at making music sound chaotic and give a feeling of beautiful despair (see Still Life), but come on, really. It is as if the drum fill is simply a tech demo, however personally if I wanted that in the middle of my song i'd listen to some mindless, pointless OMGIAMSOFAST shit like Dragonfarce.
When I first heard Porcelain Heart I nearly cringed at the vocals. They are just downright poor and disappointing; I expected a lot more from Mikael since the vocals really do make so many of Opeth's songs what they are (again, see Still Life, particularly the clean vocals of Godhead's Lament).

I at first didn't like the drum fill at all too, but after I listened to it 20+ times it starts to kick in. That whole song tries to be as awkward as possible, so it kind of fits right into the song. The song starts a melody then overlaps it with a heavier melody. I think its one of the more creative songs they have done in a while, perhaps some of the avant-garde influence he was hinting at when he talked about this album. I doubt Michael put that drum fill to show off his new drummer...This Message Edited On 06.10.08

I still can't decide what my favorite is. Or least favorite for that matter; not even Hex Omega. Overall rather simplistic but the creepy mood makes this song. I love that devilish riff after the last verse.
Heir Apparent and Hessian Peel may be some of their best.

If only drummers are able to like the drumming in a song, I wouldn't see that as a good thing.

Hahahah I was just saying that the drum fill in Porcerlain Heart goes over most peoples heads.
Whole album = win. I obviously favour one song over another, but as a whole, album flows perfectly.

I play drums and I like the drum fill okay I guess, but it's nothing amazing and nothing that I think would go over people's heads.
