It's classic innit. I have lost count the amount of times when I've thought sput was a little version of jazz club

Kind of Blue is boring as such but it's a wonderful ambient album.

and +1 free and fusion

im sorry but if you listen to kind of blue and are bored i have to say i have less respect for you

thats terrible to say but fuck its brilliant and the musicianship is just top fucking notch

plus the atmosphere, it doesnt get any better

modal jazz is like the perfected form of expression through music by a small group of individuals IMHO

just because i don't like listening to it actively (though it's wonderful in the background) doesn't mean I don't think it's an excellent piece of music.

see thats an okay opinion dude for sure, but just to dismiss it as boring to me comes down to simply being negative about something you dont understand (human nature)

thats another thing great about the style though is that its both great for atmosphere/background music, but its also fantastic with headphones on and truly listening to the free-form expression and subtle nuances

"free and fusion is the best tho really"

lol

Most forms of jazz are better than fusion.

depends, "fusion" jazz is such a broad thing

early psychedelic jazz fused jams in the 60s were brilliant imo (i would include interstellar overdrive in this)

coltrane's modal albums are pretty much all better than Kind of blue tbh

Kind of blue is fantastic. Only ever listened to a snippet of this album but it sounds fiercely more chaotic. Kind of blue is like... Way too good. Seamless.. It does have heaps of different feels due to the modal nature of the music but like.. That's why it's soo damn good. Miles is so pro at trumpet. People forget it's pretty much a jam with a roadmap

i like coltranes albums too kind of blue was like the original plus had more depth for me (coltranes on that too obvi, plus miles plus the great bill evans)

i just like the story behind it too - the guys were given the barebones of the songs the day of and recorded playing to it that day, just so raw

zakalwe's point when saying that "jazz aficionados are the worst" is quite exacerbated. i'd say i'm a jazz aficionado myself and i like to think that i respect everyone's opinion equally. it's quite a generalization.
