It's my biggest criticism of this subgenre of DM is that Brutal dm tends to focus on vocals like these and they mainly just annoy me. I can look past it with these guys but they're a rare exception

It's a lot to take in, but the same happened with Deeds of Flesh and that landed too, so I'm not worried

I’ve always found it weird that these types of vox in particular turn people away lol

why? It's completely discernible! I even try to read along with lyrics sometimes and still can't pick up a word that is being uttered. For many that might not be a big deal but I like to be able to understand at least something. Granted the instrumentation is so outstanding they don't bother me much.

The vox are just kinda there for me. Theyre good but idc what he's saying. The instrumentation and songwriting is absolutely godtier tho

I see death metal lyrics more as accompanying text that adds lore to the atmosphere set by the music. I rarely know what my favorite extreme metal artists are saying with some exceptions. With music that’s very brutal in nature like this I’ve always found the more guttural or alien vocal style very appropriate

I couldn't give a fuck less about lyrics in metal tbh.

I do care because there are often really neat themes and concepts like The Sanguinary Impetus being about brutality in nature or Disposal of the Dead covering different methods of corpse removal in various cultures. I find a lot of that stuff neat and interesting but I’m usually following what the instruments are doing and not really following along with the vocalist unless they have like a really discernible style like Mikael Stanne who enunciates very well.
