always thought Vacation was the best place to start. I downloaded all their music at once, and Vacation was what stuck out the most at the time. I was able to get a good feel for Jeff's voice, lyrical content, song sttructure, etc which eased me into all their other fantastic records.

this is the only true answer. NOW COME ONLY BACK WHEN YOU'VE REACHED THIS POINT IN THE JOURNEY.

I'd definitely put gcw below this. my rosenranking changes damn near every time I put it down, but I might end up 4.5ing everything but gcw actually

"And it gets easier as I ascend my bike uphill on foot
'cause last time I kicked it into first I broke a gear by going too hard.

And it gets easier as I pass the Edward Scissorhands village
where privileged white kids date rape girls and taunt me in their SUV's.

And it gets easier as I see the double vans in our driveways,
I'm glistening but I know that some day I won't even break a sweat."

A feminist friend of mine said that the Edward Scissorhands line is offensive to women because it so casually brings up the topic of date rape. I think her criticism is unjustified and she's completely missing the point. What do you guys think?

i dont know how bringing up date rape in a casual situation is inherently bad as long as its not turning it into a joke plus if anything its just being used to mock frat bros so idk

not offensive, but quite flippant and naturally catches you off guard at first. it seems misplaced to use date rape to convey a sense of loathing but when you think about it, it's just jeff writing with that blatant honesty of his. it's kinda like people writing about living in a rough neighborhood where people die regularly; that stuff comes out in your writing, even if you're not specifically dealing with those issues.
