Believe me, it's close. I guess the only thing that drags this one down for me is that this was when the band started focusing on making their sound heavier and more aggressive, sometimes to the detriment of their songwriting. The album is still great, but I feel like it lacks some of the intricacies of their earlier work

Honestly, I think it manages to be intricate while nailing heaviness, which is where Iconoclast failed. I can definitely see how the new direction can give that impression, but the songwriting is still there. It's the point before they overdose and go off the deep end, especially Allen's singing.

Yeah, I definitely agree that Iconoclast is where they jumped the shark in that regard. Still a good album, but the vocals in particular can get comical at times

this, iconoclast, and underworld are really fucking consistent. personally they are my three favorite albums from them. a little less personality / uniqueness but everything is so top notch
