Presence of Enemies, Ministry, and first half of Repentance are great, Dark Eternal Night is good at some parts, rest is pretty meh

So bad you had to say it twice.
I agree with you Talons. Second half of Repentence drags on for far too long and really loses its steam. Also, this has some DT's most cringeworthy songs such as Prophets of War

Agreed, Prophets of War is DT's worst song ever. Album overall's not bad imo. Some pretty decent riffs on here. First part of In The Presence Of Enemies Pt. 1 is just mindblowing.

Yeah, but most of the songs aren't consistently good throughout and just have momentary sparks

Undeniably true. When I first heard this album it almost caused me to lose faith in DT. When I came back to it several years later, some riffs finally kicked in.

This was my introduction to them. I overplayed it so I don't listen to it much but I've outgrown most of the album and I can finally hear its flaws. Black Clouds was such an improvement from this

Such a quality gap between this and black clouds, they really pulled it together for that one
|

Such a gap in quality between Scenes and everything after

Album Rating: 3.5
The gap's not that large between Scenes and Six Degrees imo. But then quality went down steeply...

Not sure if this is the worst Dream Theater album, but it's certainly close.

I like this one much better than Octavarium, but I'm quite alone with this opinion I guess...

This, s/t, and FII are bottom 3s not counting the debut

FII rulez, definitely among my top 5 DT.

Too many lame songs to be in mine but I love a few of them, mostly the longer ones

Train of Thought is a decent album too. Eery song except This Dying Soul and Honor Thy Father are among their best, so I don't understand this "quality gap" after scenes and six degrees.
Octavarium is at least more consistent than this. Even ADTOE was better, but only cos it wasn't bad unlike so much of the content within this. T/t is far worse though

As I Am is pretty mediocre too, except the guitar and drum solo. TOT and Octavarium are pretty middle of the road DT, probably right above their bottom 3 or 4 albums

I quite like As I Am. Compared to stuff like Wither or Forsaken. Digging the darker tone. I'd say ToT and Oct are either 3rd or 4th best for them after the obvious two
