I don't like a lot of death metal anyways so it doesn't matter.

No, it's true. Most death metal I hear sounds boring, repeatitive, and the exact same damn thing as the last death metal band. There are a very few select death metal bands I like. The rest fall in the pit of unoriginality. Then there's JFAC which just sucks.

That stupid piechart of mine hasn't changed since I deleted all my old ratings. Either way, to name a few: Hypocrisy, Orphaned Land, Scar Symmetry, Morbid Angel, All Shall Perish, Arsis, Athiest, Cynic, Grey Skies Fallen, old Nile, Unholy, and old Terrorizer are the only death metal bands I like. If you notice a pattern in the fact that hardly any of the mentioned bands are pure death metal.
| | | MA, Old Hypocrisy, Nile, Arisis, and Nile kindof are. ASP is great, Cynic is phenominal, and Terrorizer is Grind, isn't it?
| | | Album Rating: 1.5
it's Death Grind, meaning more death metal then grindcore.
| | | Meh, I spose. I really need Focus.

I got Focus used at FYE.
| | | I just need to look for it.
Np: Veil Of Maya, again.

For Death Metal, yes, but seeing the progression is great.
Progressing from completely worthless garbage to mostly useless garbage does not impress me. Even though this is much better than Doom, it's still a horrible attempt at death metal. Bands like this are only pushing death metal further down the hill they've been sliding on ever since the mid 90's. JFAC is easily some of the worst shit to ever be labeled death metal. These guys should really get back to their breakdown-laden fashioncore that they're so obviously accustomed to making.
Pardon me if I seem hostile to this band, but I become slightly annoyed when anti-prodigies are hailed as a return to greatness.

Scar Symmetry and All Shall Perish are totally unoriginal (and All Shall Perish is a copy+paste metalcore band with death metal vocals, IDK if that counts as death metal).
I can see where you're coming from, though. Alot of new-school death metal really doesn't have much originality at all. I listened to Aborted's new album, which alot of people are going crazy over, and I just don't see how it's more than a 3.5, there really isn't anything new there. Sure, it's well executed, but it isn't going to be the saving grace of the genre. Death metal needs more original bands or it's just going to degrade and become stale. This Message Edited On 07.29.07

All Shall Perish are totally unoriginal (and All Shall Perish is a copy+paste metalcore band with death metal vocals, IDK if that counts as death metal). Uhhh, No? They are Death Metal with breakdowns. Like despised Icon, but alot better.

Scar Symmetry is a supergroup. They have an excuse to be unoriginal.

Uhhh, No? They are Death Metal with breakdowns. Like despised Icon, but alot better. More like metalcore with blastbeats and growls.
