The end of Crane Wife 2 sounds faintly like the bridge of Transatlanticism.

I'm really happy this wasn't a let-down. It's probably their best album yet.This Message Edited On 11.07.06

oh man, it was so cool. I like the part she use her hair as an instrument and invited the audience to come up on stage and play with her dog. Pretty much the best ever... yah.

I'm glad the Decemberists are expanding their sound. It seems they're moving in a more prog-rock direction. I wonder what the next album's gonna be like.

I think it's going to be pretty simple. He said he'd like to move in the opposite direction next time, and just record a bunch of songs in a few days and see what happens.

The Island is genius. Hell, this whole album is genius.

I love this album, Meloy has such wonderous vocals, it's rather amazing really...Anyway, nice review, you did it justice. I'd say "Yankee Bayonet" is my favorite song on the album. Also...I was upset to find that on the Colbert Report, Meloy was absent. Chris Funk was the only one from the Decemberists who went on the show... -_-

Rock and Awe: Countdown to Guitarmageddon for the win.

Otherwise, I find this band slightly dull.

They're playing in Hamburg tomorrow and I really wanted to go, but I live in Denmark and it was too complicated and no one wanted to go with me.

I'm sad.

This is an absolutly amazing album. I didn't think their next album could beat Picaresque.
Favourite track would have to be Shankill Butchers, wait damn, also When The War came.

This is the first album I got of The Decemberist, brilliant album pretty much all the way through.

My fave track: When the war came

but it was a tough choice with such a wide range of fantasic tracks including the behemoth "The Island" lasting for about twelve minutes and feels more epic with every listen!!!

Good review ;)

I found Picaresque to be an extremely dull album with flashes of absolute genius here and there, so I'm sure in time the Decemberists will be amazing.

Nevertheless, I have only heard Yankee Bayonet thus far, and it doesn't do much to intrigue me.
