To me, that suite works better if you think of it as an extended epilogue. The heavy metal voice of this trilogy ended on Broken Souls. As I've previously stated, I prefer this ending. I can't quite explain why, but I find it infinitely better to have a classical orchestra rounding up this thing, than having two or three overdubbed guitars screaming over each other and trading climactic solos.

That's where you're wrong. Everyone's opinion matters, which is why I'm taking the time to read and respond to them all, whether we agree or disagree. This is a music forum, after all!

My wife didn't care for the (admittedly super long) mutli-part ending of ROTK but then I finally talked her into a marathon where we watched all three (extended editions) back to back and she was bawling her eyes out when the door to Sam's house closes like "I can't believe it's over" lol

Don't think the closer here will hit quite that hard but I definitely want to give all three parts a proper full run through.

Now that's interesting. Imagine they had adapted more material from the ending chapters of the book, namely The Scouring of the Shire, if you have read the book...

Honestly glad they left that out (but then cleverly snuck it in for a bit with Galadriel's mirror), it works in the books but it's too anticlimactic for the movies with how the big epic battles and such are presented.

My ranking of the 3 albums is the exact same as the release date lol. The 16 minute medly is a bit much as an ending tbh

Part 2 is my fave. Opening track is too massive.
