This was quite a bit better than I was expecting. Rivers actually decided to play some guitar this time around

Really liking CEO, Hoops and Nowhere, they got that classic Weezer feel.

how many times has this band attempted to recapture the magic and sound of their early work and fallen short? this isnt dreadful but is painfully boring and ordinary. at least Kenny Beats knew how to add some punch to the guitar sound. the track with Karli is solid because its basically a Wednesday song. CEO is terrible

I dunno, it's growing on me a bit. I still don't think it's got anything on EWBAITE or White, but it's a good album. Lots of 3.5 type of songs but very consistent.

im negative but then again i really dont know what Weezer could do in 2026 to get me excited about them, so im probably a lose cause

I'm tempted to do a discography run, although my previous attempt ended with me almost dying of boredom even before reaching their bad stuff. Maybe you have to get closer to 35 to appreciate Weezer

My peak Weezer appreciation occurred between ages 26-28, so outlook may be bleak

im 35 and would prefer to think Make Believe onwards doesn't exist

Weezer really are the personification of the "It's so over/ We're so back" ouroboros

production/mix/whatever on this is extremely flat and disparate and really highlights the simplicity of the instrumentation to the point it's uncomfortable
each note from each member stands out on its own as the individual picket in a would-be fence without those pickets ever coming together with more than a binding of thin thread. they're next to each other, but that's basically it. it's very strange and quite literally not an issue in any of their other work. you'd think something done with more traditional recording methods would be the exact opposite of this in that respect, with everyone jamming together and melding in some way, but no. the electropop albums sound more organic than this.

Im not a weezer fan. The last album to love by them for me is Pinkerton. Everything else ranges from competent and catchy to vapid bullshit.

'Don’t make it weird, says the poster child for making it weird'
i think its meant to be meta

Yeah I get that. But they released a glam metal album in the 2020s so I think it still qualifies.

even weezer’s lesser albums have interesting qualities to me. thankfully this one is mid-upper tier for them
the LA sound is a great closer

This has some of the most uninspired tunes Weezer has ever penned. Their weakest since the black album imo

black has a lot of interesting stuff going on in the background which this doesn't

There's definitely something holding this back from being the next EWBAITE or White. Not sure if it's the production or just the fact that none of these songs blow me away, they're all just pretty good.
