Hawks there is about a 50/50 chance you unexpectedly fuck with it or absolutely hate every second of it.
I'd say give it a shot lmao.

Relieved that people have liked it! Lol at least from the few to give it an honest shot.

Upon more listens, it still is too chaotic to me and the first half just doesnt do it for me.. Fun album nonetheless

Read this review a few nights ago (great write-up by the way!) and it convinced me enough to spin this today and damn
This is like putting 1000 gecs and last year's I Love My Computer into a blender. The second half is indeed where it shines, and there are some fun and chaotically energetic tracks throughout (the parts that include hardcore influences are also very welcome). But on first listen, this was *very* overwhelming and the 49 minute runtime doesn't help. If it were shorter or offered some reprise from the chaos, I think I'd personally enjoy it more.
It sits at around 3.2-3.3 for me now, if I am honest. I could definitely see this growing, maybe today was not a day I was craving intense hyperpop

It is a little bit much even on a good day I want hyperpop personally.. Maybe if it was 15 min shorters it would have been greater

@Munsu - I agree about the length. I've messed around with the tracklist in a few different ways to see if it could've flowed better, and I still stand by my opinion that 2 My Haterz and Monstarrr being removed would've been so much better for the album as a whole. To me, UGLY is where the album's better half begins anyway.
@Panos - Funny you say that; I almost listed 100 Gecs and Ninajirachi in the similar artists section. Interesting idea about the reprise from the chaos comment - I feel like that was her intent with Disassociate, but it's so late in the tracklist anyway that it doesn't really help in that regard.

I think that FASHiiON HERO works well between show off and cute so I've added it into my cut up version.
CUTE is my favourite song on the album, the pay off in the 2nd half is so satisfying.
Might have to bump this to a 4.5, actus reus has really grown on me.

@Groundking - Agreed that Actus Reus is underrated. The run from UGLY to Nihilist is probably my favorite as a whole, but I'm torn between either Nihilist or Show Off being my favorite song on the album.
But yeah, second half of CUTE is so damn good. This is looking more and more like it'll end up in my year-end top 10, maybe even top 5 depending on what else comes out this year.

Personally, this album hits its stride in the second half from 'Jealous' all the way to the closer. And 'Actus Reus' is one of my favorite tracks here.
I'm starting to think that 3.0 is maybe too low a rating for this; will definitely sit with this album more and/or play around with different track sequences to see if this further clicks with me, since its constant chaos and overwhelm was my main "issue" here

I'm right there with you man, this is probably going to be one of my most replayed albums of this year. Won't be the #1 though because ain't nothing coming close to Olivia Rodrigo this year lol
|
| |
Album Rating: 3.5
I just wish that Olivia Rodrigo album would have more real "bangers" that could be found on Guts and sour. It is an excellent "one note album", but it would probably have been 4,5 territory with about 2-3 high energy songs

B-but Expectations...
Lol I totally get where you're coming from Munsu.

I also get where Munsu's coming from - though, weirdly, the ballads on her new album are the thing that wins me over (as opposed to her previous albums where the "bangers" did it for me)
Also, Platy, is the review's summary a jpegmafia reference
