There are some very cool bits here and there, I just checked and rated Palimpsest insanely high, barely remember the disc, should revisit, remember I had really liked the lyrics on that one, like they had really to say something.
This gave me the impression that is more mannerism than message, at least at a first listen.
Ps: their new drummer is insane and it shows, it really gave this disc a different edge, PtH have always been a guitar/bass led song but holy moly Mouthpiece is crazy intricate for example, . I saw him on tour with Intervals, made the Karnivool drummer almost look like a normal drummer in comparison. chops for days and crazy hits.

if you don't already like PtH it's definitely not an album that'll change your mind I'll say that, basically them playing the hits

Album is pure fun.

So far this sound like a nice throwback to earlier albums, we even got Jadea Kelly back!
First listen was mad fun, hope it's really the first part of a double album because my only complain is that it's pretty short

they're barely into their 40s and have been doing this 20+ years

Yeah these guys are my fav Canadian band besides Rush.
Shartharder this one definitely warrants repeat listens and you will goodness hiding within. As mentioned in my review it doesn't have as many immediate highlights of previous albums but just stays quality throughout.

This is their best since volition and the relatively short run time by their standards helps it a ton. My stamina for listening to this band isn't what it once was.
Also I identify with fishhook way too much

Hawks bro you need to listen to the rest of their discog, Palimpsest and Fortress are peak af.
Maybe this just needs more time to grow but Rody's hooks are way weaker here than Palimpsest, the guitars are about as amazing as they always are and the drums are the best they've been in a while but I just can't help feeling like I want more from it.
Also hot take, Volition is the worst thing they've ever done.
