Tbh I’m pretty sure I like this more than I Let it In… and Gifted Every Strength stands tall as their best song ever. I am a little confused why the acoustic outro isn’t its own track, it’s not like it would’ve been the only instrumental interlude here. It’s genuinely beautiful and I kinda wish it actually tied into the track somehow, like it doesn’t really organically get there, the song just fades out and that starts.



That’s nitpicky as hell tho, like I said in the other thread the last leg of this record is some of the best music I’ve heard all year. Fangs (this one REALLY grew on me) - The Ladder - Gifted Every Strength - No Stranger to You… is seriously aoty level shit imo, I really wish I dug the rest of the album as much.

I actually hate that this band had everything the light touches in their grasp after the last album and instead took six years to get some features and come out with their next album. bands who ripped these guys off had formed and turned away from the sound before this shit dropped.

A step down in every way. I give this a 3.5 though a 2.5 feels more normal for me. But for one I am absolutely enamored with this band. And I feel like it’s a grower so we’ll see how time goes. I find the first half to be vastly superior to the back half. They’ve always written a good closer but the closer here was not only anticlimactic, I wouldn’t even put it in the top half of the album. Their closers are always the best on each album, even on the ambient album. I really like Block of Flats, Fortress Down, Fangs, and The Ladder a lot. Gifted Every Strength is great as a single but the new version is overlong (the single was already pushing it). Hmm… this is a hard one for me. It was my anticipated AOTY and here I am trying to justify a 3.5 on an album I feel a 2.5 for just because of my overhyped expectations and love for the band.

I will say I’m quite surprised at how just about every site has The Ladder listed as the lowest rated song here. It was a highlight for me easily. It’s gorgeous.

Yeah, I was very whelmed by this thing. I think it's still a good record for what it is, but it is leagues and leagues beneath I Let It In. Hopefully it won't take them 6 years to make a follow up again.

Some of the softer songs on here are just alright, but the heavier ones hit hard as hell. This is pretty good.

Never heard these guys music before. Really into this record. One of my favorites this year honestly
