lots of foundational deathcore came out in 2006 (the price of existence??) and this sound was already firmly established. if it's groundbreaking to y'all i mean i won't yuck the yum, but it was specifically critiqued at the time for being scene-kid deathcore with a prettyboy vocalist and not much else

Buster Odeholm produced this? Must be the one of the worst sounding albums in history, dude is the worst producer in modern metal

A lot of the hype is just the band coming back to the sound and throwing us a bone with a new song even if it sounds a bit modern compared to the rest of the album. They dont even play TiaH songs anymore so its also a lot of pop-tier BMTH fans getting a taste of what they missed out on. Probably less so on this site but at large I'm for a band revisiting a sound and bringing a larger audience with them.

and yeah it is cool to see a band revisit older stuff when they aren’t heavy anymore. dehumanized is pretty fun now that i have set my expectations aside for an actual count your blessings style track. i would certainly take more of that compared to what we they’re doing now lol

It has way more to do with the shift in taste than that. Go look at any review from that time frame.

And idk if you can really call it derivative in '06. Like yeah All Shall Perish and Job For a Cowboy had already hit the scene but they all feel pretty distinct to me

essence is not right at all. this sounds nothing like the price of existence or allegiance which are way more technical. it is very much the scene elements, immaturity and overall dumbed downedness in the chugs/breakdowns that made it stand apart.



this was very much it's own thing that spawned a little melodic deathcore boom. it laid the foundation for future deathcore to build on. there are no albums made before 2006 that sound even close to this, bands copied this, not all shall perish or as blood runs black.

I remember that we got a comp of a bunch of new wave bands covering this album a few years back. Its definitely a beloved album now even if it wasnt at the time on here. Architects also had a pretty heavy debut at the time but I dont think it has fans the way this album does, which is funny cuz that one is rated higher than the og of this is.
