The true miracle of 2026 is having a great (new) Muse album lmao

I've been listening to this all day, non-stop, just to see if I'm getting carried away or if this is some sort of sick joke, but it's not lmao, it really is a very good record

Why is the Ellie Goulding feature so spectacularly executed wtf

Matt's vocals on 'Nightshift Superstar' are pretty jarring. He gets better towards the end of the song, but wtf how did that make it through production? Otherwise, surprise of the year, most songs on here are good.

Apparently Matt Bellamy went through a divorce and it hit him pretty hard. It seems like he really sunk into his music. I feel bad benefitting from it music-wise, but I definitely think there's a correlation between two decades of hit-or-miss poppy stuff then a sudden triumph.
I wasn't the biggest fan of Space Debris at first as a closer, but the lyrics make it kind of crushing.

Good new Muse in the year of our lord 2026 was not on my bingo card but here we are. Hexagons and Unravelling are early highlights for me.

@ProPrayer: I was expecting something like a piano ballad with a lame predictable duet but it really smashes expectations and kind of rocks
@Cloak: Hexagons is the top song for me. Unraveling is great, but I'd probably put Cryogen above it.

Most consistent Muse in years. They’re at their best when they are space-y.

Cryogen is also very good, honestly I'm just amazed at the consistency of this thing, the last few Muse albums have all had some decent songs on them but way too many duds. This is just consistently very good.
Also yeah did not expect that Ellie Goulding feature to work but it really does.

Their best since Drones, and that's coming from one of the few who loved Will of the People (that one is also a 4 for me, albeit a weaker one than this).
That said, this having the same average as Absolution is wild.

It won't hold at a 4, but the fact that this has the potential to avg out around the same level as BHAR is something I never thought I'd see from Muse again.

Also I just realized Hexagons is track #6 and for some reason that cracked me up

Not to mention parts of it are in 6/8 time!

So it was definitely no coincidence! Haha

God even Muse is dropping a good album? Might actually have to listen to this one

Early track ratings, along with my preferred tracklist/ordering:
The Dark Forest - 4
Hexagons - 5
Unravelling - 4
The Sickness In You & I - 3.5
Cryogen - 5
Shimmering Scars - 3.5
Be With You - 4.5
Nightshift Superstar - 4.5
Hush - 4.5
Space Debris - 3.5
For the record, all those 3.5's are growing, too, so not sure what that signifies about my future enjoyment of this. It might be blasphemy, but I think I might already enjoy this more than Black Holes & Revelations.

BHAR suffers from knowing the extended version of Assassin imo. Glorious is another example of a b side that should have been on the album imo
'Nightshift Superstar' is a 5. [2]
