Best one since We Were Dead - just feels more consistent, weighty and more tied to their signature sound than certainly the last one and maybe half of Strangers.



I really dig We Were Dead (overall better than Good News imo) and this is a lot like that, has a sweet mainstream indie sensibility with just enough quirks in the mix.

Yeah, even from one full listen I'm on board with the emerging consensus that this is their best since WWD, and that's coming from someone who liked TGC more than most. "Life's a Dream" is a belter.

Yeah WWD is solid, Spitting Venom maybe top 5 MM songs. Plus Parting of the Sensory, Little Motel and a couple more classics.

"March into the Sea" and "Missed the Boat" too! Plus I always thought "Steam Engenius" was underrated.

The first four tracks on here are one hell of an opening run.

Yeah the album has a really strong 4-song run at the beginning and is dotted with quality songs throughout. I'm always a fan of tight albums and there's fat here that could have been trimmed, but MM like to pack their albums with stuff. I'm relieved that they felt okay with recalling their history rather than continuing to pivot away from the things that made them so good in the first place. Happy to see others here are digging it as well.



And Good News... and We Were Dead... are very very good albums. I know fans were bummed during that time because it was a pretty significant plunge into mainstream, but even the singles apart from "Float On" (which simply got overplayed) were all quality MM. Ocean Breathes Salty is, lyrically, one of Brock's best in my opinion. Hope folks reevaluate each of those.
