"Their debut Careless is quite good, has a much darker tone than this album."
Each album progressively got more poppier. I need to go checkout Careless but it does seem like subsequent albums pushed the gothic aspects further into the background. The Demonstration feels like a good middle ground between the two. I know the Objects in Motion EP had a slightly darker tone with "Vanity" and "The Skin and The Glove" but I just found the EP sort of uninteresting after Modern Mirror. Hoping for a return to form...sometime.

Also, thank you for bumping this because it made me search for a vinyl of this and I snagged an Ebay listing of one of the limited runs they did a couple of years ago. Overpaid a bit I'm sure but it's an unopened copy.

Nice! The Demonstration is indeed middle ground between this and the debut, also quite good imo, remixes included.

The congregation of this thread needs to listen to Italian outfit Crush of Souls, especially their recently released third album Captive Souls.

"Dying to Stay Young" is a banger man. It's like goth, EDM, and Mortal Kombat rolled into one.

@Voivod going to listen now before I forget

Last three songs of the album are the best, with "Body and Leather" being the best of the whole album.

Indeed, the last one is the most immediately engaging. I am, however, not sure about my feelings towards the entire album. Additional listens are in order.

I shouldn't have been a coward when I rated this. This is a stonecold 5.0 for me. It's a classic in every sense of the word.

Just for your info, if you want your new rating to be displayed in the review, you have to change it in "Edit my uploaded reviews/albums" section of your profile. Otherwise, your 5.0 rating will be displayed in the user ratings list, but still remain 4.5 in the review.

Thanks for the tip, Lou! I'll consider it even if I'll be compelled to add an addendum explaining the change to classic status. I don't think my review reflected that consideration as well as I'd want it to.

Agreed, fantastic album, shame they don’t seem to have any new music on the horizon

I was talking about this album with my wife and I told her that I can't envision any future album eclipsing this one. It's so consistent and a great summation of their synthpop and darkwave aesthetics. Each song on this could be my favorite on any particular day.
