Doing good! How about you, mate? I got into death doom and gothy doom over the past year and recently discovered this band. Looking forward to hearing this.

“ British Gothic/Doom > Swedish Gothic/Doom”
I get it but like american death metal and swedish death metal, they may as well be 2 different sub-genres

just finished listening to this and i'm really disappointed
it just sounds so empty and bland by their standards, they rely so much on really basic rhythm power chords to carry most of the songs and it just undermines the experience massively. they used to utilise really good leadwork at almost every moment and here it's so sparse that it feels too little too late every time.
also as fantastic of a singer lisa is i just don't feel she suits this sparse, moody draconian like heike does. she's far more commanding and theatrical and the music just doesn't match her energy.

Vocals are great. Gonna sink into this

I’m glad this style of album art is still a thing.

Can't believe I'm about to say this but I really miss Heike's vocals. I've been following this band since Where lovers Mourn and always liked Lisa's style, but Draconian and Heike was a match made in heaven (or hell).
So far this sounds great though.

Going to dive in soon. I found a gothic belgian death/doom band Akem Manah

I like it so far but i also kind of expected more? But Godless Veil sets a high bar to clear. I mean its goth and death/doom so im going to love it regardless but still something feels missing and not vocally

I too much prefer Heike
|
| |
Hey, we'll always have the back to back brilliance of Sovran and Under a Godless Veil
Shame, those records got me into the band, and while idk if Heike had anything to do with the songwriting, i really dislike this dramatic approach Lisa has going on. like someone mentioned, Heike suits this new style of the band so well. sone of the old stuff with Lisa like Arcane Rain Fell and Turning Season were real stellar records too, but this kinda sounds like a mismatch going back to Lisa while not adjusting the material to her style
rip this band ig

it isn't that i necessarily prefer heike, lisa's a fantastic singer but here it does feel like half the time she's trying to emulate heike's vibe unsuccessfully and the other half she's being far too dramatic for the music she's singing atop and it's really jarring. turning season within for example is a very intense and dramatic record and heike wouldn't have been able to pull that off like lisa did - she's the perfect fit for that record.

Jamming now and actually really digging. Didn't know what to expect with all the mixed reactions lol.

Lisa is AMAZING on this album, you guys are tripping - hard.
That said... totally understand the lower ratings for this. The songwriting is simply not on par with their best material, but it's still a great album regardless, for me.

Super late to reply here but I've been well! Looking forward to new BoC this month. I've only just gotten into gothic death doom the past 6 months or so myself. Did a full discog run of Draconian's stuff twice over.

Glad to see you're digging this so much, Hawks. Didn't know if you'd dig it as much as Godless Veil
