i am torn on weeping tones. it's so out of place for them. it's like a throwback tribute to mid 2000's melodic metalcore. feels like a haste the day or as i lay dying song. structured like one too with the hook. but it does kind of go hard lol.

Great review, Futures. I completely agree. I am relieved someone else feels similar because I was trying to figure out why this thing wasn't -entirely- clicking with me. It's good, but that almost feels disappointing compared to what I was hoping to hear.

"Hooks were never their strongest suit, but they feel even less impactful here. Tracks like “Antarctica Inside Me” showcased how dynamic and engaging those moments could be. Now, they feel more like textural contrasts than true highlights"
Nice review, mate! Definitely disagree with this sentiment -- I think their hooks have always been pretty strong, but not as massive as like Greyhaven's. Respect you grappling with expectations and age when trying to evaluate this one. Maybe your past this sound, and maybe you'll come back to it later with less weighted notions of what your 2026 ideal PTW would have been.

thank you teal! i hope i could at least articulate a few reasons why you felt a little let down.
and thank you as well great. i suppose that came off more harshly than i meant. i more so meant that poison the well's hooks even though good, are far from the first thing i think of. towards the bottom of the list for me in ways they excel. i do kind of respect they don't have bombastic hooks, just most aren't overly memorable for me. and i'm very interested to see how this ages over the years for me and many others. can't say they made the same album again for sure!

Brilliant review. I have a lot of love for PTW and I was shocked as to how much of a comeback this was. They were one of my favourite bands and since this has dropped I have revisited the rest of their back catalogue.
Even though we may not agree on our opinions of this album, this review is great nonetheless. Well done!
