Second listen of this was great walking to town on one of the first bright sunny days in England this year...still think like 'Light Verse' this will remain a strong 3.5 for me (same as 'Our Endless Numbered Days' that's stuck on a 3.5 too, to add further context).
'Creek Drank the Cradle' is a 4 and as said before 'Shep's Dog' is a 4.5.
Top review too Sowing. The I'm With Her guest vocals grew on me second listen too.

Respectable ratings all around. I need to revisit his lo fi beginnings. It's been years since I've heard Creek and now that I'm older I might appreciate it more.

I may or may not have picked one of the tracks here for a song of the month, and I may or may not have found that Beam's daughter does duet vocals on some of these tracks, which may or may not be pretty rad.

Ah ok that's pretty neat. I was wondering who that was. I figured it was just I'm With Her again, but it didn't make sense that they'd be credited in some songs and not others.

It's so good! I listened to Light Verse and it was ok, but I think this really tops it in a major way.

Yeah, I mean it feels weird to put this at the top of his discog because I know history won't recognize it that way, but right now I can't think of another Iron & Wine LP that I personally enjoy more than this one. Maybe Kiss Each Other Clean (my other personal fave), but this is a better blend of his traditional folk and production glow-ups.

Listening to Kiss Each Other Clean now and it's really solid, but also I think I liked the more stripped down Iron & Wine more. Definitely agree that this one is a solid blend of his older folk and big production. Also looks like the vinyl isn't even that much, as far as records go. Very tempting hah!

Shepherd's Dog is a perfect Iron and Wine album in my opinion. It's such a lush-sounding album and House by the Sea may be my all-time favorite folk song. Sowing, your thoughts on the album definitely have me intrigued.

Make sure you give it time. Started as a light 3.5 for me but every subsequent listen was a little more magical. Probably took me 3 spins before I was actually hooked. True grower, but all the greats are.
