I do enjoy a nice walk through a museum. I'll try to squeak it in today in between replays of MøL.

I've been giving too many 4s. Today is the day I change that, for today at least, I think.

This is definitely not worthy of a 4 agreed.

Mayhem are like the Venom of the Norwegian black metal scene, they pale in comparison to their contemporaries, their classic albums are kinda overrated and most of the hype stems from the band's image/controversy as opposed to the music itself. I'd rather just listen to Enslaved or Emperor.

De Mysteriis definitely isn't overrated. In fact, I'd argue that most of their stuff is underrated tbh, but this definitely isn't lol.

Agreed. It just feels like the same song over and over again. There's some interesting parts but it's just blast beats and minor chords like that hasn't already been done a billion times. It's extra disappointing because they could have gone a ton of directions but chose to just do an exercise in Black Metal 101.

I remember seeing these guys live years ago and the singer kept propping up a skull from his hand while screaming which looked hilarious. It looked like he was about to go into verse from Hamlet or something. The mosh pit was pretty insane though. Musically so far I’m digging this album but those vocals are terrible which ruins it for me.

Like throw in some of the weird ass shit from Grand Declaration or the dissonance of Esoteric Warfare or the ballsyness(?) of Chimera or something.

Album Rating: 3.2
Yep, if they would've thrown some avant-garde shit in other than the first track, this would be much better.

this album is further confirmation that Blasphemer was the real talent in this band. ordo ad chao has more ideas and atmosphere than the last 3 albums put together.
