Hawks up here cementing his status as a music extremist
I get a mild In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 impression from the cover.

The tool clone tag was very lazy. While there are similarities, they are just as inspired by messhugah. Listen to scarabs to hear the meshuggah influence. They were basically proto djent.
Album is awesome. Conversations and Salva are fucking beautiful. I’m still trying to understand remote self control. Definitely the craziest song they’ve done.

Yeah Remote Self Control is the only grower for me that left me head scratching it almost reminds me of Astronoid at points with the upbeat happiness over the heaviness.
It's definitely better than Asymmetry and that album grew a lot over the years so I can see this potentially rivalling Sound Awake over time Ghost, Salva and Aozora are my faves so far. Conversations and Reanimation get a bit lost in the sauce but still fantastic songs, production is immaculate I wish they would go back and remix Asymmetry.

Also last 2 minutes of Salva is probably top 3 Karnivool moments ever, had a massive grin listening to it, hope to God it doesn't take another 13 years for another album.

Isn’t it beautiful? My favourite songs changes every play through. Always a hallmark of a monumental record.

Kind of a low bar.
I heard their last two albums and was thoroughly underwhelmed for the entirerty of both, so I doubt this'll be any different.

I remember being here when Sound Awake dropped.
Time flies! Excited to hear this, last album didn’t do much for me.

While it's definitely distinct, I think you'll find it scratches that Sound Awake itch.

It’s definitely more accessible than asymmetry but has some asymmetryish parts.
It’s kind of like Themata having sex with Sound Awake while Asymmetry is in the cuck chair in the corner.

I think, in time, this will cross over to a 5. My only hesitation is Opal. I don’t know if the beginning of the track quite lands for me. Now I’ve digested the whole album it feels less out of place though.

My only two complaints -
The studio version of Reanimation pales in comparison to the live version. They shortened the ‘choruses’ which fucked with the flow of the song and they also changed the lyrics to ones which don’t fit the music as much.
The tonal whiplash going from Remote Self Control to Opal. I think Aozora and Opal should have been switched in the track list. Doing this also breaks up the drone-Aozora-animation trio which are kind of sameyish. It’d also be a kind of throwback to Sound Awake with the third song being a more melodic, subdued song.
