I’m so glad Barr came back and brought Volumes back from the Gus abyss. I wasn’t surprised that they went down the pop route, they’ve been getting more and more melodic each release, and I think they did it fairly well here. I thought this album was a lot more interesting than Happier?, but that was a great album as well. The horrendous production really holds this back from being a true 5, but I’m giving it one anyways cuz it’s Volumes!

On Her Mind is like the worst song ever for most of it but then the chorus HITS.

it's so ridiculous and out there that i like it. different animals would've been a lot better if they just fully leaned into the rap side tbh

his vocals are fine though. they have a unique tone. but that album proved that barr is volumes. they had no idea what to do without him lol

The production is awful cuz first of all it’s super quiet. At least on Apple Music, it’s quieter than all their other albums. Then the heavy parts sound super muted and not punchy at all, which is Volumes trademark. The guitar is so far back in the mix. And the screams are the worse part. They almost have a nu-metal “whisper” effect, making it super hard to distinguish the two vocalists. Now the clean vocals sound great, so that’s the one exception. The album is good enough that the production is just whatever after a while though.

I'm really not hearing that at all man, like idk if it's an Apple Music thing, I use youtube music and mainly listen at the highest bitrate with steelseries over the ears or samsung buds pro and everything sounds just fine to me. sometimes the vocals are too punchy but still distinguishable from the instruments
