I love how within the first 5 tracks she sings in Spanish, Japanese, Italian, German.
Beautiful record. I only heard Motomami a few times so I wasn't expecting something like this. Very Björk-esque (that feat makes a lot of sense).

"I love how within the first 5 tracks she sings in Spanish, Japanese, Italian, German."
Don't forget Latin (the "Ego sum nihil / ego sum lux mundi" refrain in 'Porcelana') and English ('Divinize'/'Procelana'), which might be the "standard" for us but is not for her and she's singing in English more frequently as time moves on.

i find it endearing the complete irreality that USA people experience the fact that is "the rest of the world". Their base reality is English and ONLY english, and the fact that most of the world DON'T speak it or understand it is fascinating to them. Some of you understand how much power that gives you. U are the center of the world, the hegemon, the axis mundis.
13 languages is no different than 2.

you don't understand 13 languages? what are you some sort of dumbass amerifat???

The performance is in the order of the global, and the order of the global falls in the order of the hegemonic. "One world" indifference. 13 is n+1. Empty signifier. But I'm schizoposting in the wrong place, I know.

idk rabid, you were on this 3 years ago in the motomami thread too. sounds like you just aren't digging the amount of people who like her and claiming it's some sort of gringo appropriation maneuver lol.

It is great. Monumental even. But I'm still waiting to form an emotional connection with it - probably due to not understanding anything she's singing about.

@rabidfish — I wholeheartedly agree with your statements; heck, I am not from the US and English is not my native language and what you're describing —the fact that every single language other than English gets flattened and reduced to a mere "foreign languages" tag simply because the English language overshadows them— is easy for me to spot.
I guess I am just confused as to what's your overall argument: how does this assessment fit into LUX? Is it a commentary on the "Woah she's singing in different languages" frenzy? A commentary on her usage of those languages?

"13 languages is no different than 2."
If language was strictly denotative then this would be the case, but every spoken language has it's own unique, aesthetic beauty found within it's articulation that can be perceived even without translation.

i can only judge the italian parts, the lyrics of the song "mio cristo piange diamanti" have a few grammar mistakes, but she has a good pronunciation and I still find the song enjoyable (althogh the mistakes could have been easily avoided with the help of an italian proofreader...)

Some really great songs here. The odd moments with the male vocals are terrible though.
