Hey Futures! Yeah, been a minute, hope you're well also!

Uh oh, my word vomit is on the big button slots now. Thank you, and it definitely smacks of all the hallmarks I adored about mid-00's death/metal-adjacent whatevercore.

I wouldn't call it new or refreshing, but that was never what I wanted out of this style anyways. I'm sure the ratings have more to do with folks like me suddenly feeling the need to rate it highly where we'd just skip filling a rating in for something forgettable.

That being said, it really is just so damned well-executed.

i totally feel that. i really have a soft spot for something super familiar but just executed as well as you can do it. the perfect comfort listens.

"Since their inception, Currents showed promise, but it seems the full realization of their groovy, chaotic sound required a complete overhaul in personnel, with no founding members remaining. Yet, it's hard to argue with results."

This seems very random to mention when 3/5 have been in the band for 10 years and the other 2 were on their last 2 albums / have been with them for 5+ years

Nice one, this deserved a review. Been jamming this constantly since it came out. Might be their best work honestly.

@JohnFire That's a fair point! Obviously I'm just random dude thinking this stuff, it's not like I even know these guys. It just was my impression, and I hope I didn't make it out to be anything more than that. I usually only write reviews when I'm up late and not able to sleep (see username).

Thanks Joshie! It's definitely my favorite of theirs, no offense intended to fans or the band members lol.

WIN!!! Good to see you still kicking brother, excellent writeup as always!

EP slaps, big step up from their last LP. Rise & Fall might be my new favorite Currents song.

This band has been on a downward trajectory ever since their fantastic debut LP but the high rating has me curious. Maybe I'll give this EP a chance.

man can't turn back is really really good. vocalist is such a beast, so much range. those low gutturals were sick and the highs are nice and throaty. heavy as hell.

rest definitely had me wishing they leaned fully into that direction. dig the opener as well. not bad at all just kinda generic stuff i've heard so many times. chuggy groove, atmospheric clean part, hook. the hooks are just so limp to me and kind of kill it. they'd be much better without them and going heavier imo. pretty good album though. i'd actually go 3.25 if i could. hype is def a bit surprising though.

any of their other stuff worth checking out if that was my takeaway?

Their other EP I Let the Devil in is their best work.

Most of their other material doesn't land for me, but I think that has more to do with wanting them to be heavier, which this EP fulfills..

Agree with Futures that this band would be cool if they went full heavy. Into Despair is what I want them do to full time, however I also really vibe with a track like 'Over and Over'. I think they can do both parts well but their pitfall(?) is for sure them creating mid tracks where the heaviness and the poppiness are both not well executed.
