Yea I’ll admit I’m not too into their pre sleep talk stuff so you’re probably right haha

Album is bad. I listened to the first 5 tracks. None of them were as good as the best material on the last record.

| |
I liked some of the synthwavy stuff on the last one but I don't feel like checking this out

The singles were solid and the rest of the album is a snooze fest.

I remember seeing an interview with the singer where he was serious and said his band draws more attractive people to metal shows. I thought that was a weird thing to say.

worse than the newest sleep token? I haven't checked with these guys since a cursory listen of sleeptalk years ago (which I am newly motivated to revisit) and found this a decent vibe listen, I like Rory's voice even if the lyrical content could definitely be pushed beyond "devil" this and "devil" that.

I've been critical of their progressive nerf-ing and I wish they had maintained a similar balance of riffs and hooks as on sleeptalk, but this latest one actually has a more comfortable competency on the hook side of things. It feels like Rory is singing in his most natural range the entire time and just owning it, while the drums have better energy than Dark Sun. DS felt like a transitional album toward this one, which doesn't rip as much as the earlier, heavier ones, but is its own thing that I enjoy listening to, even if it wouldn't be as fun to learn on guitar or whatever

yea, especially with Gino the guitarist leaving the band it's starting to feel more centered around Rory's melody and vocals, which is definitely the highlight of the band. But yea him leaving regardless of reasons, does seem to confirm the direction the band is pushing towards, and it's definitely not a guitar centric one.
