On first listen, the end is nice but isn't entirely satisfying.
But for the most part - this is such a skillful amalgamation of old Antlers and new Antlers (pre-tinnitus and post-tinnitus) - I deeply enjoyed it.

I am completely in love with this, exactly what I want from this band

Knew this was gunna be good, but wasn't expecting to like it. Im going for my third consecutive listen...

I love green to gold but I’m a hospice man through and through. Excited to hear this

---I’ll be sure to check it out. So I went back to look at the review I mentioned and it turns out it was yours. Haha, an old review of yours led me to a newer one. Sowingception.---
Ha, it actually sounded familiar so I went back and tracked it down. I don't know what business I had comparing AvA to The Antlers or Radiohead, but it was 2011, I was young and dumb.
---Sowing is spitting raw, hard facts, here. [2] The first song is absolutely wonderful, here I fucking go. Carnage is spectacular---
G2G is indeed amazing. Attic may still be my favorite, but Green to Gold certainly gives it a run for its money. Carnage is indeed phenomenal. Let me know what you think of the rest!

Honestly it took me a while too. I've been listening since July. It gets better with age though, just like every Antlers release tends to.

Awesome to hear it man! Have a favorite song? Mine is probably either Deactivate or Something In The Air.

Cool to hear that it's clicking. Hopefully it keeps growing!

IMO this is more G2G than Hospice, but it does blur Antlers eras pretty successfully as letsgofishing said.

Been meaning to get to this, new job and baseball playoffs have taken much of my time lately.

Also I agree that G2G is their best

Green to Gold just has a splendor and elegance that's hard to match
This is it's own kind of beautiful though

Didn’t even know they had a new album in the works. Crazily, I think the only two I’ve heard are In the Attic of the Universe and Hospice. Should probably remedy that. Liked both albums quite a bit as I recall.

Oh nah, you weren’t comparing the band as a whole just the song Inertia. After hearing a few of The Antlers tracks, that comparison is spot on. I love the use of the synths to create the atmosphere of songs. You weren’t dumb, just less experienced and hadn’t been shaped by what you know now.

While Green to Gold is to me an evergreen masterpiece that just keeps getting better with every listen, I feel like this one has successfully carved out a unique soundscape which pushes boundaries a-la certain Radiohead, Pink Floyd, or maybe even Talk Talk releases of yesteryear. Also feels unapologetic, honest and topically relevant such as some of those records were.
I'm blown away by the subtlety, restraint, the interplay of dynamics and just how sometimes it can be both warm and incredibly distant simultaneously. This is how music should be done god damn it. Really think this is IT boys

@tina: Oh, now that you mention it I actually remember that. Damn time flies.
@Storm: hell yeah.. Totally agreed that this is it's own unique masterclass and doesn't need to be better than G2G to be such.

The (nuclear) winter version of ‘Green to Gold’ with a strong Grizzly Bear ‘Yellow House’ influence too.
I’m not sure this is better than ‘G2G’ yet, that had six or so really lovely tunes.
‘Something in the Air’ the runaway best song on this to my ears 👂 👂

I absolutely love that string swell in Something in the Air. Super chilling and eerie but in a beautiful way.
My top song is either that or Deactivate but the entire album is gorgeous. 100% agree with your description of the record as well, doof.

Enjoyed the review Sowing, I forgot this band are such a mainstay for you - I think the album is quite possibly as good as 'Green to Gold' up to and including 'Deactivate' but I need to listen to the remainder a few more times as those tracks haven't made a huge impression on me as of yet.
Agree on the eerie feel in the background on this one, suits the theme of course, and is somewhat unique for them (snatches of it on previous individual songs, definitely unique being applied across the entire album). 'Yellow House' I always thought sounded a little antique or even haunted in places and there's something of that here too.

Thanks doof. I was talking to Sunny about the second half of the album because he's not big on it either, but I like the quiet, chimey fade out. Fits the theme of environmental destruction IMO. Feels like the eerie aftermath. Could just be me taking too big of liberties/assumptions with regard to the artistic intention though.

For me so far the standout, along with Something in the air of course, is Pour. There is something progressive about it but it's done in a gentle fashion without forcing anything.
On a side note i just love his voice and how he express it. I would like to hear him sing with Anohni. I beleive their voices would be a perfect match.

So i was hearing the album as i was typing my previous comment but now that i heard again Deactivate, i just have to say that is so, so, but so beautiful.
Whole album basically is a treat.

💯
Deactivate is one of their best songs ever. Think I've settled on it being the top song here.
Pour is great too.

The end of "Deactivate" made me throw my hands up like I was at a youth group concert or some shit
