"I'm betting they just wanted to get in on the action while they still could - before too many similar acts established a foothold and rinsed the 'genre' dry."

bro this band was designed and focus grouped by marketers. "they" didn't want to get in on anything. "they" were chosen like members of a k-pop group.

I understood "they" as in "music industry", not "the band"

ahhh yeah you right. I'm pretty sure the same management group that has sleep token created these guys too. So they created this trend of masked-wearing watered-down metal adjacent pop garbo.

Sleep Token is overhated imo but this is not even a band, it's a physical cash grab.

It has been for a very long time, minus the odd standout year. At least a decade imo

Probably won’t check this, the singles I heard were generic slop.

Yeah, the first one's as if they tried to make a compelling pop-metalcore song but had absolutely no clue about doing that. I know what most people would focus on are the vocals but damn, the rhythm section operates as haphazardly as a surgeon with Parkinson's.

The vocals is really good underneath the auto tune

Agreed hard on the rhytm section

I really do not get "mainstream metal" these days. Novelty bands like Babymetal, sure. But this recent trend of whatevercore is baffling, is this the zeitgeist? lol, makes me feel blessed growing up with Limp Bizkit.

We need a savior of metal badly at this point.

Specifically mainstream metal over here in the UK. the vast majority of our biggest contemporary metal acts are fucking terrible.

The singles slapped but yeah, there's no coherency or flow to this. That being said, the low ratings here feel a bit stretched

Just had a listen through this. RAGE is a great tune. The hooks throughout the entire EP were really strong, shame about the verses though, mostly average with some hideous mixing on the vocals. Production in general is pretty good though, just not crazy on some of the SFX, comes off a little corny lol. This probably has more in common with Bad Omens than Sleep Token.
