Album is great. It's not as immediate as an AFI album usually is but I can already tell that this is going to grow on me with each listen. It's cohesive like Burials and that means that when you're in the mood for it, it's going to give you everything you need. But it's maybe not going to give you songs to cherry pick. Basically the opposite of Bodies. I love the production, love what Davey is doing with his voice, and love what everyone else is doing with their instruments. As a whole, it's actually less like DREAMCAR than I was expecting. Even got some Missing Man vibes with the acoustic guitar elements. Going to take a LOT of spins to see how this lands for me but I'm already itching to hear it again.

thinking about the marketing again and it's just crazy how starkly different the result is from Bodies. Rise marketed the singles and Run For Cover marketed Davey.
it definitely helps that Silver has a stronger identity (as far as pre-release goes) and the obvious conversation piece that is Davey's new look

I love the new look lol.
I kinda mark the passage of time by how old these 4 gents look, and they're definitely looking aged, but also damn good.

this is taking from a lot of eras i really like but it is just so melodically bland. AFI have already proved they can take from bands like the cure, duran duran, bauhaus and put their own spin on it but this doesn't pay off on any of that promise and just sounds like a pale imitation. but i suppose i'm in the minority that really loved their last two records. bleh.

NOONEUNDERGROUND HOLY SHIT
feels like their most honest to god attempt at Black Sails/AOD era song except in 2025. I was NOT ready

awesome album imo. It was REALLY short and i REALLY want more but the tracks themselves felt very full despite the short runtime. Production is easily the best its been since Burials, Jade finally nailed this shit. The songs are weird and im a fan but def gonna have to digest. I didnt really like Bird of Prey on first listen and was afraid Davey was gonna be that monotone throughout the album but thankfully that wasn’t the case. he sounds fucking awesome throughout this. The band too!

Ugh, I love Bandcamp but one of my gripes is that they can be really slow to unlock albums on their release day. It's 8am here and my preorder is still greyed out.

idk why bandcamp doesn't release automatically when the release day comes around, it has to be done manually for some stupid reason

---‘NOONEUNDERGROUND’ (clearly a self-referential nod to Decemberunderground), Havoc explodes out of the stagnant calm with a frantic punktuation mark---
There were Easter eggs in the review folks! ;)
Glad you're liking this Grey, I know how much this band means to you.

quite the roller coaster ride this album, some great songs upon a first listen. A World Unmade, Blasphemy & Excess and NOONEUNDERGROUND are favorites at the moment, beside the singles.

My main issue with this album is that roughly half of it has a borderline identical beat, and that beat is too upbeat for the lyrics.
