poor James Rolfe. he pigeonholed himself and all his most recent AVGN output is such a shell of it's former self. you could tell his old reviews were more from the heart since he actually played those games, but it's obvious the games he reviews now he never played back in the day, so the authenticity is gone.
I grew up loving this channel, but he never adapted and has banded with some questionable individuals recently. very sad to see his decline.
this album is probably terrible since I've seen vids of their live shows and it's not good at all really. but hey, if he's having fun, that's all I care about for him

AVGN is fucking terrible now, and not surprised his musical output is not good either.

i just know new AVGN is just a typical laid back game reviewer, which makes sense now that he's gotten older but also makes him generic. really should have threw in the towel on that and focused on the other projects he's doing. kinda seems like he's just going through the motions rather than really trying.

Yea I saw some of the vid with AVGN and two of the band members from Gwar and I couldn't really finish it. I was never that big into Gwar (although I haven't heard enough of their music) so I kind of lost interest half way through.

new GWAR is pitiful, so i'm not shocked it wasn't very engaging

the issue with modern AVGN is that James Rolfe doesn't write, direct, or edit the episodes anymore. he hired a creative team to do it for him. he's even used body doubles in certain post-covid episodes. and the only culprit of his diverted attentions points towards Rex Viper. that's the only thing he's been putting a lot of effort into post-Covid.

Yea Mike Matei was pretty much the original AVGN he was one of the reasons AVGN was so big. Did Mike move on or something? I cant remember.

mike moved on I wanna say in like 2020, and he's said it's more or less because he hates the creative team James hired to write the episodes. but they are still good friends from what I understand.

That Mario Paint review was terrible except for the Bob Ross parody. Honestly his reviews have generally gotten better I thought since the Screenwave days. It at least seems like he tries to care more in the current reviews. I remember his Metroid review being good
As for this music. I expected it to be incredibly lame and have no interest in it. I probably heard a song once a long time ago but I can't remember it being any better than some diarrhea dick waffles. As he may be inclined to say still.

Please share some of it
Theres an entire chapter in it where he talks about destroying a dorm room in college and almost getting expelled for it and the whole time James writes about it like he was the victim

yeah and then he tried drowning himself in a puddle on the beach

I never read his book. I figured he fabricated some stories. Like how he had 4 Rolling Rocks with Mike M in college and couldn't find his way home seemed a bit. Well I don't want to promote excessive alcohol use, but Rolling Rock timed in pretty well with a punk rock beer in my eyes at the time and how James would reference it.

Also Kyle Justin wrote the best theme song ever!!!! He got into home improvement, last I knew. Even Bad Luck Bootsy used to post on Cinemascre that guy sucked in his role for "Board James." He was really cool and showed how to get good at difficult games. I did and still watch AVGN a lot and I as I said it has gotten better. His musical shin dig is just the shin shit.

AVGN's new creative team has been plagiarizing stuff for years as well, Hbomberguy called him out on it in one of his videos

They easily could be. It's too bad James Rolfe doesn't write his own scripts anymore. I just said reviews now were better than the Screenwave years. Oh yeah is this just about Monster Madness. I never watched that because I didn't like Monster movies. I can barely get through them if MST3K riffs on them.
Yeah that is common knowledge. I thought this video was going to be about new stuff like how he ripped off the latest script for Metroid.

that early AVGN stuff took off because he was an encapsulation of early Youtube DIY. 2000s online culture reveled in being trashy, niche and something you'd share among friends.
fame is weird, I don't really feel like reviewing this as a legit musical project. it'd be like trashing a local bar band. idk how much discussion they merit.

I see where some of you are coming from in not wanting to trash this band. I get it but it’s pretty blatant James Rolfe sees this as a legitimate band, not some cute side project. They’ve played in several cities and have a 2-disc vinyl coming out in October. Not to mention they probably dumped $20k into the music videos and full length LP. You dont do that unless you think this where it’s at.

Expertly written review. Haven’t thought about this dude in a minute
